iMac Slow [Retina 5K, 27 in, Late 2015]

My iMac is suddenly very slow and when I try to restart it, it gets stuck on a black screen with just the cursor.

Pasted below are my EtreCheck results. Can anyone help me analyze them to figure out what's going on? Thanks so much.

The most obvious thing I see is the lack of RAM. This is critical as you use RAM intensive applications (Adobe Cloud) .  You also did not indicate how long this issue has been occurring. If it was present prior to having High Sierra (10.13) installed then you should NEVER have updated to 10.13 until your got the problem fixed. The reason being is  you have made the problem much more difficult to troubleshoot.

Next and while this isn't a solution to your problem,  you don't appear to be backing up your system. This is a critical error as you will eventually lose critical data. There is NO excuse to not backing up the system. Apple includes Time Machine with Mac OS and it only requires an external HD to backup. If you are not familiar with TM please review How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support.

My recommendation would be to  upgrade to 12-16GB of RAM. When you do only purchase from either Crucial (buy it direct) or OWC (www.macsales.com) . The reason for recommending these two vendors is iMacs are sensitive to using quality RAM and both of these vendors provide VERY high quality products at reasonable prices and provide excellent service.

Thank you for the feedback! I will purchase 16GB of RAM now, from macsales.com.
