Mark messages as read or unread

If you want to remember to read a message later, you can mark it as unread. You can also mark messages as read without opening them.

Mark as unread

1. Open the Gmail app .
2. Open the message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, tap the sender's profile image).
3. In the top right, tap Unread .

Mark as read

1. Open the Gmail app .
2. On the left, tap the sender's profile image next to the messages you want to mark.
3. In the top right, tap Read .

Mark all messages as read

1. On a computer, open Gmail. You can't mark all messages as read from the Gmail app.
2. In the top left, click the Down arrow All.
3. At the top, click More Mark as read.
