I want to change the name of my bluetooth devic...

Attended a meeting yesterday.  Several others in the room had the same Logitech Ultrathin BT keyboard.  So, the connect list was a mile long.  Each attempt to connect failed as others were connecting to each others keyboards......no way to tell who's keyboard belonged to whom.  Everyone gave up on trying to use the Logitech keyboard.  A bit frustrating to say the least.  This should be a simple fix......but, doesn't look like it unless I'm willing to jailbreak my iPad?

The name of the device comes from the device itself. I would check with Logitech and see if this is something that can be done via the device. I've not witnessed changing the name of Bluetooth devices on anything I've used in the past.

Thanks Chris......I'll contact Logitech.

Just as a follow-up.....I contacted Logitech.  They are aware of this very issue.  They are working on a solution.

Nice to know. Glad you got some information from them.

Actually, while Chris is correct in that the device name is indeed supplied by the manufacturer, it is apple who needs to get off their butts and supply us with a solution. Can you imagine every hardware manufacturer trying to reinvent the wheel here and then getting it to work on each device? Android is capable of renaming devices and Apple already knows how to do it as well. Unfortunately, it is a function only available for Mac users. In Bluetooth settings on Mac OS, you can simply 2-finger click a device and then select the rename option. Please Apple, release this option along with IOS 9.

This is a user to user support forum. Apple does not participate here, and if you want them to hear your opinion, you need to go to the feedback page HERE, and click on the appropriate subject.

HI Chris, Always good advice to encourage folks to send in feedback to Apple. Thanks for making that easy by supplying the link. Whereas it is true Apple does not participate in these discussions by responding to posts, they do read them. I know that because on several occasions I have been contacted by Apple to follow-up on I wrote. I must say they were very polite, very interested, and eager to get more hard data from me to aid their troubleshooting.  I am not advocating 100's of people post about the same frustration concerning a functionality limitation.  But one or two such posts may get Apple's attention. Most importantly, it helps to rally the troops to sent in those feedback reports!

How would you even rename a Bluetooth device like a pair of earbuds (from the earbuds themselves)?

This has to be enabled in iOS.  It's no big deal to keep track of each device and provide a user-friendly name on the connection screen.

If I could up vote this I would. I have been asking for this for a long time. I have duplicates of some devices and it is a PITA to try and select the right one.

It's curious that Android users have a way to change the "Friendly" name of their bluetooth devices, and Apple doesn't.

I agree that it's important for users to be able to rename the bluetooth connections on their i-Devices. I'll submit feedback to Apple.

FOR REAL .. How can such a smart company not revise such stupid little irratating issues? i.e. Renaming Bluetooth devices, individual volume on alarms, numbers on same keyboard, swipe, etc...  Seriously Apple, we love you, but if we're going to pay a premium - give us basic premium features on your product!

You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user technical support forum, and Apple does not participate in the forum. If you would like Apple to see your suggestion, then you need to use the feedback page at https://www.apple.com/feedback and then click on the appropriate subject area.

To Chris's point I have two sets of the exact same  Bluetooth headsets

without being able to rename them I have no idea which one I'm connecting to.

the name is what The end-user sees on the phone not necessarily what is stored on the device

You can change your Bluetooth device name on IOS 9

Settings > General > About > Name
