Series 2 vs Series 3

Recently my boyfriend brought me an Apple Watch series 2 and I love it!! This was 2 weeks ago. Since then they released series 3 & last night I was at the mall and convinced my friend to buy one! She ended up getting the 3 as it is cheaper than the 2??? I don't understand why, can someone please explain?

Also, what is the difference between the two watches? Appart from cellulor (which isn't available in New Zealand anyway)?

I still love my watch, I just want to know what the difference is and why the newer one is cheaper? Just makes me worry, is there something wrong with the series 2? Hoping an Apple wiz can shed some light for me!
