iCloud Email Issues

Recently, within the past few months I have noticed that when I check emails on iCloud webpage (not on phone) on my laptop very often it freezes and I'll see the multi-colored circle come up. I usually have to do a force reload which is frustrating. I'm using a 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.6GHz Intel Core i5 Processor and have 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. I'm running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. Anyone have any suggestions? Is this a common problem?
