Problems with 2017 MacBook Pro battery life

I've had the new 2017 MacBook Pro (3.1Ghz) for a couple of months now and overall I've been pretty happy with it but the battery life seems pretty problematic.  I normally don't run on battery that much, but this week I'm taking photos at a conference.  I found when I was rapidly loading photos and editing that I'd drain the battery to just under 20% in about 90 minutes.

So the things I was doing was running Lightroom, a card reader, and then uploading over a Wifi network.  I've done similar work with my older Retina Macbook Pro from 2013 and did not see the same problem.  I also confirmed with another photographer doing the same work that their older Macbook Pro didn't see the same battery issue.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be?  Or does the new MBP just have bad battery life?

I remember when my battery was still that good. It used to work for maybe three hours or four with a bunch of apps open in the background. Same model but now it runs about 2 hours before it’s under 15% and on Chrome alone!

Users have reported that initial estimates of battery life and capacity were wonky.

But after some use, it quickly self-trains and the levels reported become more accurate. An SMC Reset after a little "experience" seems to improve reported capacity as well.
