My 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch keeps shutting down on its own. My local Apple dealer has run a full diagnostics and cannot find a fault. However he says that my laptop only has a life time of about 7 years. Is this true. The problem seems to be that it has only 4GB of Ram

There are some known problems with some 2011 MacBook Pros that caused them to fail in just a couple of years. Does yours have the hi-res screen?

Not having enough RAM would not make your laptop shut down on its own.
