How do I stop this?

One thing I think helps is when waking the computer, press enter and wait until it wakes up. Then very slowly move the mouse. It works almost all the time which tells me impulses might overload the system initially.

You will have to talk to the manufacturer.   While Apple machines will work with some third party equipment, it is the responsibility of the maker to meet Apple's requirements rather than the other way round.   That would especially apply to machines running El Capitan and later, for which Apple have designed a new mouse.
