Mailbox circle

What is this about?

I have no sent email. I don't get it on the mail server (Rackspace.com) or my Mac. What is more a strange new icon has appeared. In my sent folder, I see a big grey circle between the account name and the disclosure triangle (see above). Any ideas? The problem with this circle, bob, spot etc is that I can't find any mention of it anywhere ( I also don't know what to call it and therefore searches for help are tricky). I has a while ago and I ended up trashing the Login user and creating a new one and re-downloadfing all my email. This has not helped.

I also don't get any sent items on either my iPad or iPhone, even through they are sent to store on This iPhone/iPad. I am using IMAP email and Yosemite / IOS8.

I'm actually not on 10.10 (I have slow internet and bush life to thank for that), but have you tried rebuilding your mailbox? Thats usually a pretty easy and painless way to fix / troubleshoot oddities such as this.

Yes. I also delete the whole user account and started again. The big question is, what is the circle icon?

Have you opened it yet (click the little triangle to the left of the circle)

If it opens do you recognise the content?

There is nothing in there. What is the Circle for? As you can see, the triangle is pointed down, so it is open.

That was the point of opening it, to see if there was an indication what it might be.

Reboot your Mac

There is nothing in it so I'm not sure why there is s disclosure triangle. Still no idea what the grey circle is or where my sent messages have gone.

SW11, I have what appears to be the exact same issue. I have one email account that displays a grey circle in the left bar next to its Sent folder. I can unfurl it with the triangle, and yet there is no content in the Sent folder despite the fact that I have sent emails (and they have been received). A circle is also next the Drafts folder of that same account, although I cannot unfurl that triangle and I am unable to save a draft when composing an email from that account. It appears from your screenshot that perhaps you have the same issue with your Drafts folder. I'd be curious to hear if you've found a solution yet. If not, perhaps it's a consolation in the meantime that someone out there has the same issue. I too have remove and recreated the email account but with the same results as before.

I am also having this same issue.   I am running Yosemite, the issue is limited to a manually configured IMAP account; Gmail and iCloud accounts are fine.  The only new data I can add to the topic is that when one of the suspect grey-circle mailboxes is selected, whether it is Drafts, Sent, or Trash, the descriptor at the top bar of the Mail window will note that the selected mailbox is "Read Only".    SW11 or Soli Deo Gloria, I am curious if you see the same "Read Only" message when selecting one of the grey-circle mailboxes.

Hi,

I too am having a similar problem and have only just noticed it. The black dot appeared beside the "Archive" folder of a manually configured account and the page header indicates the folder to be "read only". There is no black dot beside any other folder of the affected account. Said account seems to be sending and receiving mail as normal. Has anyone had any update that might help resolve the issue since the last message in the thread was from January of this year. Searching today didn't come up with anything new for me.

I am having the same issue.

Can anyone help !!?? Please...

I had the same issue!

Try the steps on the following link :

Worked perfect for me!

Good luck!

Thank you!  Very easy fix to a very annoying problem.

Hi SW11,

You may need to set an IMAP prefix.  I had the same problem with the big circle appearing next to one of my sent mail boxes, so I had to go into the Account Settings and enter "INBOX" for the IMAP Prefix.  Then the Sent Mail box expanded to show the entire folder structure for that account.  I was then able to click on the "Sent" folder within that structure and choose the Mailbox > Use as Sent Mail option.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Eventually, I got rid of the grey circle as follows: Right click on the sent folder, then choose Get Account Info, then Mailbox Behaviours, and then uncheck the "store sent messages on server" box.

The grey circle will disappear and sent items will be visible in imail. Note, the sent folder for the account will only appear once you've sent an email from there.
