720p or 1080i ?

Hello, I watch TV on my iMac ( mid-2011 ) via streamer from Set Top Box.

My Set Top Box has 4 choices, 576p, 720p, 1080i and Auto. 1080i doesn't work with this streamer, however the streamer supports 1080i, it is compatibility issue.

So, I'm watching at 720p now.

I'd like to ask which one is better, 720p or 1080i for my Mac's screen ?

One is not "better" for your Mac than the other. You just see less detail at 720p.

No computer screen is interlaced.

In fact no current tv is interlaced.

This means that all interlaced signals need to be deinterlaced before they can be displayed.

Interlacing, as the great sensei Tom Wolsky once wrote, "should be shot and put out of its misery".

set it to auto, it will choose the best that is supported.

I tried this, thank you.

It selects 1080i which as said it doesn't work for my streamer.
