photos not uploading to icloud

I am using Photos Version 2.0 (3161.4.140) on my Macbook and it's taking ages for my photos to upload to icloud.  I have left my computer running without going to sleep mode or similar and have turned off all apps except Photos.  It has remained stuck at 508 photos to upload for 4 days.  Previous to that it was stuck on 514 items to upload for a week.  My macbook is  connected to my router by ethernet cable in case my wifi at home was the problem.

I also have the problem the other way round where none of my photos in icloud (from my iphone) are showing in Photos on my Macbook, but they are showing in iCloud.

Any advice?

1 - it is slow especially for video

2 - nothing downloads until the upload is complete

3 - to see if you have any problem photos causing issues ake two new smart albums

1 - Photo   -   is  -  referenced

2 - Photos  -  is  -  unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library

Both should be empty

Thanks for replying.  Since I posted two more photos have uploaded...  Thanks for confirming that nothing downloads until uploads are complete.

Sorry, I'm not completely sure what you're advising about making two new smart albums.

What part of "Make two new smart albums" is confusing to you? It seems very concise and simple to me - the criteria each of the smart albums is given

I've not created smart albums before so I didn't realise

that the following were references to the criteria needed when setting up a smart album:

1 - Photo   -   is  -  referenced

2 - Photos  -  is  -  unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library

The photo is referenced smart album is empty.  the other smart album has 10 photos in it, but there is nothing in there dated later than 2015.

The upload has sped up in the last 2 hours

Ok - so you have ten problem photos you need to address - look at each of them and see what the problem it - it could be an unsupported format, a corrupted photo or other reason - you probably will have to either delete them or export them adn then delete and after the upload and download are complete import them again
