macbook locks up at start

After start up my Macbook pro locks up and does not allow me to load any applications

Try an SMC reset:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Boot in Recovery and run Disk Utility > First Aid on your hard drive:
