Problem connecting wireless printer
Very frustrated tryng to connect to a new Epson WF-3540, and getting wireless to print from MacBook Pro on OS10.8, as well as my iPad2, iPhone5.
Have followed directions to delete printer and reinstall, reset router, printer & Mac countless times and taked to 4 different support techs at Epson. Some reviewers have said they connected quickly with no problems, others experienced big problems like me. I can print from USB and Remote Print (although that takes a very long time). Epson keeps saying to call the router vendor. Our router is old and the vendor wants almost as much as buying a new one to provide support. But our network works fine with all other devices - the MacBook, iPad, iPhones, Kindle Fire, Samsung TV and Apple TV, Dell laptop, etc. throughout the house,so it really doesn't seem like the router or distance of the router to the printer. I did remove my cordless phone that was nearby. After that, as well as after the pings, previous resets, and re-installs, I can get the printer to print wirelessly from the Mac, iPhone, iPad one time and then when I try to print another document, it again says the printer is not connected, printer can't be found. I have read and followed all the steps on the Apple support site on printing, connecting a wifi printer, recommended settings for WiFi routers - all with no success. Does anyone have a solution? Are there any wireless all in one printers that work well with Macs (and iPad/iPhone via airprint) and also perform all the other functions well and are reliable?
I have had this issue specially after the printer goes idle and have had to resetup the wifi everytime which is a PIA. I just did it a different way then the directions to have my mac point to the specific network IP address and things worked great now!
If your issue is that when you go to print... the mac isnt finding the printer... try this:
1. Go to your printer and click on the wifi setup menu on the touch screen (assuming you have already setup your printer to connect to your wifi router)
2. scroll down and click on wifi\network status
3. scroll down and not the IP address
4. Go to your Mac > System Preferences > Print & Scan
5. Click the "-" to remove the current printer setup you have for the Epson (this should delete the profile from your list of printers)
6. click the "+" to add a new printer
7. On the popup window... the top icon menus are Default, Fax, IP, Windows... click on the IP menu tab
8. enter the IP address you noted from your printer in the adress field (ex. 10.0.0.12)
9. Your mac will automaticaly see if it can connect... once it does, click the "Add" button.
Your Mac will now know where to look on the network to connect to your printer. For some reason these steps are not listed in the directions and I just happen to try it myself and it has worked for me.
f you need to set up the connection, see the Start Here sheet for your product for instructions. To see the sheet, go to the Epson support main page, select your product
