iTunes 12.6.2.20 external Harddrive query ?

So without knowing i made the mistake of upgrading to the latest version of iTunes without realising Apple have removed the appstore which is pointless for me as i currently dont have an 'i' device but like to grab apps/games when on sale or when they go Free on my PC,, so i followed a tutorial and downgraded back to 12.6.2.20 and all went well i then decided to move my library to an external drive to make matters in the future easy and i thought that went well everything appeared fine all content showing etc however upon updating the apps from the Update tab in the appstore i noticed that instead and as iTunes has ALWAYS done on my PC removed the old version of the app to the Recycle bin now what iTunes is doing is keeping the old app in the iTunes Media folder thus creating a mess of old and new versions together and taking up unnecessary storage space, So Question is how do i Stop iTunes doing this and get it back to removing an old updated app to the Recycle Bin ?  THX
