Just how much data can iTunes sync use up?

Yesterday I had a huge spike on the data usage of my mobile broadband device ie 10GB in the space of an afternoon.  I'm trying to find the culprit (me or my husband) and the application
I did sync my iPod.  I had added 22songs (85.9mb). It did seem to take a really long time though.

At the same time, I also updated my iCloud music library.

Forgive my ignorance, but could either of these processes have used up so much data?
