iTunes 11.4

Hi

I'm on Windows 8 / iTunes 11.4.  When I display any of my playlists the 'Shuffle' button is visible next to the Playlist name.  But when I click on it it doesn't change colour.  So I have no idea whether it's ON of OFF.

Any ideas please?

Yvonne

Do you not see the display in the top part of the window?

and this happens...

The blue icon means it's shuffling.

And to see what's going to play next...

Hi

I can't see the first two images you posted, but yes, I know what you mean.

I do see THAT shuffle button.  But what I'm concerned about is whether

Shuffle is on for each Playlist before I synch with my iPod.  And I can't

tell that by kinowing whether it's shuffling while it plays, can I?

Huh?

Shuffle on/off is a command within iTunes (where you posted your question). It has nothing to do with any specific Playlist - i.e. you cannot set Shuffle on for a particular Playlist, instead you set the player to Shuffle.

And now, you mention Syncing with an iPod, and being able to tell whether "each Playlist" is set to Shuffle before Syncing. Again, Shuffle is a command within the player (the iPod) and is not specific to an individual Playlist. Different iPod models haven't slightly different ways of using Shuffle, but on the two I use, Shuffle is turned on in the player's controls and once on, it stays on until I turn it off again. It has nothing to do with the Playlist itself. So I don't understand your question/concern.

In my first post, I included an image of a Playlist in iTunes. (Let's try posting it again - even though I can see it in my first post):

Even if you cannot see the image, look at any one of your Playlists. To start it playing in Shuffle mode, click on the intertwined arrows (the Shuffle icon) next to the Playlist name. It's to the right of the Play Playlist button.

Here's screenshot number two:

By the way, in your iTunes Library, you can use the top bar menu to select Controls/Shuffle and the sub-menu that appears tells you whether Shuffle is on or off. If it states Turn Shuffle Off, that means it is currently on.

Use CTRL B to turn on the top bar menu.

Oh wow. I've always been under the impression that shuffle was set

individually for each playlist. There you go!

Thanks, I'll use the general Control setting.

I have a very old iTouch. Not sure if it has shuffle settings.  Will check

it out when I get home.

Thanks for your help.

Screenshots from my very old iPod Touch...

Image 1, below. Looking on the Albums list, at album "Alchemy [Disc 2] < A >". Note the Shuffle (songs on this album) icon. Tap the Shuffle "button" to start the album in Shuffle mode.

Image 2, below. On the Now Playing screen, but in normal play mode (shuffle is off). Tap the screen to toggle the overlay on or off. In this shot, the overlay is on and so it has the scrubber bar (time played/remaining) and the Shuffle icon on the right hand side (under -4:49) visible. The Shuffle icon (intertwined arrows) is in white, so Shuffle is currently off. (The two arrows pointing to each other (on the left, under 0:02) is the repeat icon.)

Image 3. Tap the Shuffle icon to turn it blue, which means Shuffle is on.

Image 4, below. looking in a Playlists, named "Dire Straits". Tap Shuffle to start the Playlist in Shuffle mode.
