Transferring iTunes library from external drive...

I just transferred my whole iTunes folder that I had backed up on an external hard drive to the iTunes folder on my new Mac by following instructions I found on here.  However, none of my music or playlists are showing up in iTunes.  (Note:  I want to put my whole library on my hard drive, not access via the Cloud)

Launch iTunes with the Option key held down and choose the transferred library.

It says that "an iTunes library could not be found" and yet I can see all my artists folders and music inside the media file. 

I just followed the steps at this page:Manage and back up your iTunes media library - Apple Support and am getting the same results.  Apparently, my whole library, playlists, album art, etc. are not in the .itl file as it says it should be.

See Make a split library portable for some more details. You should have the entire iTunes folder including the iTunes Library.itl file in particular. This is the file you need to open when option-starting iTunes.
