How can I get Ethernet Port to work after surge...

Expensive Dual Band Router died after an overnight storm, and now the iMac only works via WiFi.    Had to switch to the one supplied by our ISP, but the iMac will only work via its WiFi now.   Does anyone know what I can do to get the iMac ethernet port to work again please?    Tried most things, including new cables, switching off, unplugging, switching on again etc.   Any advice will be much appreciated please?
