OS 4 countdown timer moving to background

After upgrading to OS 4, the countdown timer will no longer stay resident on the screen when the Activity/Workout tracker is also running.  When I start the countdown timer after approximately 1 minute,  the Activity Tracker displays on screen versus running in the background.  Anyone know a fix?

It is normal for the Workout app (a session-based app) to be shown upon raising your wrist during an active workout session and it is not possible to change this.
