How can I get my delete key to delete whole words

I type pretty fast, and whenever I mistype a word, I usually don't notice until I've passed it by a few words. For me, it would be easier to just delete the whole word I was typing, and retype it. I know that option (alt) delete will delete whole words, is there any way I can re-bind my delete key to be alt delete?
