Green and black screen after booting (iMac 2007...

Hi there guys,

a friends iMac just started showing a weird screen after booting, even safe mode doesn't work. The loading spinner hangs/stops for a moment and then the screen goes black. After a few seconds the screen on the picture shows up. It doesn't even want to boot from a OS X Snow Leopard DVD. Any solutions for this, I suppose it's a graphics card problem, but it should boot in safe mode, shouldn't it? As it can show the gray screen with Apple logo, some graphics stuff is still working you would say...
