Will eclipse viewing harm an IPAD?

Will eclipse viewing harm an IPAD?

Looks like we're the only ones.

Looks like we're the only ones.

Id ask the nerds at NASA before I ask the nerds here.

I also take umbrage with Hollywood stars saying they are nerds because they like Game of Thrones.

Unless you were hung from a school yard fence by your underwear and the Janitor had to take you down don't claim to be a nerd!

Pointing any digital camera directly at the sun, eclipse or no eclipse, for prolonged periods has the potential to burn out the sensor since the lens concentrates the light onto the sensor. Single still photos will be fine, but if shooting a video for minutes or longer, you should have a filter to limit the light reaching the sensor through the lens. Simply placing a lens from a pair of eclipse glasses should be enough, but I don’t know what the quality of video would be with that.

Professional videographers and photographers use commercial sunlight filters.  Without a filter though , all you’re going to capture is glare and sensor bloom for an over exposed image.

Obviously, if in the zone of totality, those ~2.6 minutes of totality could be videoed just fine.
