How to fix slow kindle app highlighting?

My iPad 4 has a huge delay when trying to highlight in the Kindle app. I've done a factory restart, deleted the app and reinstalled it, rebooted the iPad normally, and nothing is working. Please help, it's making it very difficult to read my textbook!
