Facetime on ipad not ringing

I have an iPad Air, iOS 10.3.3. Since upgrading to the latest version of iOS I have had nothing but trouble with sound and this was not a problem before the upgrade.

When using Facetime (or trying to) there is no ringtone on outgoing and no sounds alerting me to incoming calls. When connection occurs I cannot hear the other person and they cannot hear me.

If I go into ‘Notifications’ and choose Messages I can change and hear the sounds. If I do the same with Facetime there is no sound.

‘Do not disturb’ is not turned on.

‘Mute’ is not turned on.

When I go into 'Sounds' I can change and listen to everything listed such as Text Tone, New Mail etc, except for ‘Ringtones’. I can seem to change the ringtones but I cannot hear them.

I have sound problems also when trying to watch small videos on Facebook.
