MB 2007 died

My old workhorse, a late 2007 MacBook died, in mid-use. Will not restart; no lights, no sound, no nothing. I took out battery and reinstalled it. Nothing. 

What can I do? There are important files on board which *may* be on backup (its been +/- 2 years since last visit to my external backup.) 

Remove the hard disk and put it in an external casing (USB or whatever.)

Remove the hard disk drive and put it in an enclosure. That way you should be able to use it as an external to transfer data to your new Mac.
