iPad pro slow internet

HI, is anybody having any problems with the Internet connection on their iPad pros? For some reason it seems to slow the whole network down when it's connected to wifi. I did a speed test on my iPhone 6 without the pro connected, and I was getting around 7mb but as soon as I connect the iPad it slows to 0.1mb. the same thing happens if I tether from my phone to my iPad. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Leebo123,

Congratulations on your purchase of the new iPad Pro. I know you are excited to be using it, let's see if we can get things sorted out for you.

If you are having issues with your available network speed being reduced when your iPad Pro is on, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.

First, quit all running applications and test again -

Force an app to close in iOS

Next, I would try restarting the iPad Pro -

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Best to you.

When I am home, I get 125 mbps on my iPad Pro.

I received my iPad pro couple of weeks ago. After being very frustrated with the sluggish internet performance of the iPad Pro I attempted a simple speed test.  With some help of a friend, I took my iPad Pro, my iPad 2, my phone 5s and my MacBookPro laptop and set them all to the same address in the address bar of safari.  We both pushed the enter button and each device almost instantly fully loaded the page.  The iPad Pro just sat there stalled.  Troubleshooting, I followed another forum site's instructions to clear all internet info from the device and even turned off the Wi-Fi.  It seemed to help for the first search then again sluggishly came to a halt.  I took it in to the mac genius bar and they said it must have been an unruly app I had loaded. We also did a system diagnostic and he found no problems with the internet. We set the iPad Pro to a new device state to prove it was not my apps causing the problem.  It still stalled.  When the Genius said to me "see it is fixed!" I asked him to help me do the quick and dirty test I discussed above.  After we did my ipad2 and the stores MacBookPro quickly went to the site requested while the iPad Pro stalled.  He gave me an exchange iPad Pro right out of the box and it too stalled.  Apple has a problem with this device or its software.  On a second note, I noticed that the clicking sounds normally heard when typing and the locking clicks heard when unlocking the iPad Pro were none existent. If you hold the device up to your ear you can barely hear the clicking.  This too was thought to be part of the faulty originally iPad Pro that I purchased.  When we took the new replacement  iPad Pro out of the box to sort the internet issue out we found that the new iPad Pro also was unable to produce clicking sounds.  The settings were set up correctly for the device and mute was not on.   While waiting for the new iPad Pro to be setup I did a cursory search and found that other people are having the same problem suggesting software issues since the speakers worked fine in iTunes and other sound apps.  I became angry because I spent more than an hour with a senior technical advisor over the phone working on the lack of sounds while typing and he finally told me to take the machine to the Apple

Store which i did. Then i spent two hours in the apple store proving to the geniuses that their machine would not work while all the while they kept telling me that this problem has never come up.  BS  How could the problem exist so prevalently on the forums and two iPad Pros, one purchased in Florida and one at their store in Indiana be random.

I made a decision to return this iPad Pro I waited so patiently for in hopes that Apple will come out and admit these two issues are real and fix the problem.  It is a shame that it takes a lowly customer to do the hard work to prove to a company like Apple that they have an issue with their hardware/software while all along there is post after post documenting these issues on the forum sites.  It is as if Apple doesn't want to admit the issues.

MMyself as well. I have yet to encounter a feature on my iPad pro that was more successful than  the previous iterations. The performance on my tablet is so slow I am definitely returning it And go back to using my older devices. And after reading this forum I will most definitely NOT exchange my product. If anybody is here considering purchasing an IPAD PRO DO NOT. IMREPEAT DO NOT DO IT. everythi g on this device is **** poor. From its spelling correction to its counter intuitive interface. PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE is a very real concern with companies like APPLE in 2016. I Am so sick of the compounding inefficicies and the backwards pattern of convenience that I experience with apple products. I am one very unsatisfied Apple customer. And I am very aware that no other technology company is competent at satisfying people either. so i am stuck. II just wish my slavery was a little more enjoyable.

I came across Leebo123's concern/comment as I was browsing through this community discussion and I was actually tempted to bring my iPad pro to apple shop to have it checked as well.  But then I did one last check before bringing my iPad pro to apple. I called my internet provider and mentioned the problem with my internet connection speed, plus the effect of my wifi extender (from same provider) to the internet connection as well.

These were my concerns prior to the call:

1. Ipad pro's speed with browsing and direct streams was poor, especially when it is situated away from my main router hub (relatively slower compared to my other apple devices).

2. My internet service was interrupted (drop in connection, if not, none at all) everytime the wifi extender is switched on. This happens to all my devices.

The technician went through checks on all of my devices. He asked me to check and change a particular channel on the providers  web and reboot all my devices.

Now my problem is fixed. My iPad pro was not the problem to start with.

Hope this will be of help to other readers.

Thank you.

While we wait for Apple to fix this problem i found a workaround. Configure a static wifi connection instead of automatic. Be sure to enter not more then 2 dns adresses. This fixed my problem for use at home.

Have had my iPad Pro for three months with none of the issues you describe.

If the websites you visited on your iPad Pro had some code in then the iOS can't deal with, then no iDevice will be able to access those websites even though your MacBook did. iDevices and standard Apple computers are two totally different products that work differently and in some cases, websites that seem to be easily accessed from a standard laptop/desktop computer cannot be accessed from an Apple mobile iDevice.

That is just the way things are, right now.

Your IPad Pro issues may have, indeed, been isolated despite the apparent fact that it happened in two units.

I don't like the key click sounds, normally, but checked this feature on my iPad and it is working as expected.

I have noted in a few iPad Pro postings that some Apple store locations have received small batches of iPad Pro models that have had similar repeatable issues/defects, but the issue of that seems fairly isolated and not typical of the greater iPad Pro using community.

So, sorry you felt the need to return your iPad Pro.

I really love mine!

Most slow internet connection issues can be traced back to Internet router/MODEM being used to access the Internet service provider.

Best to check the Internet router/MODEM first to check for issues with Internet slowdowns or other Internet related issues before troubleshooting the computer or device being affected.

Sometimes a simple hard reset of the MODEM/router (unplugging from main power for 30 seconds to a minute) is enough to solve an Internet access or slowdown issue.

You're funny!

I absolutely love my iPad Pro and the performance of the iPad Pro is far better than on any of my older iDevices!

Did you bother to even try one out in an Apple Store before purchasing such an expensive mobile device?

What were expecting when you purchased it? The iPad Pro is an iOS mobile device, after all.

I call BS on all your very generalised, un-specific and negative statements and opinions of your iPad Pro exeperiences, sir!

I fully use my iPad Pro as my laptop/MacBook replacement of choice and it does most of that pretty well, but hope it gets even better!

I am an art creative and do a lot of sketching, drawing and painting on my iPad Pro, also!

Maybe this device (or ANY iDevice or iPad) isn't for you because you expect to be exactly like a normal laptop/desktop computer.

Apple mobile products aren't designed like that.

Apple's mobile devices are scaled down computing devices with a more scaled down, simplified and streamlined OS designed for quicker, faster performance on the go.

Not any different for users of Google Android devices.

If you wanted something that was exactly like a laptop computer, then you need to purchase a laptop computer or look at something like Microsoft's mobile Surface Pro tablet line, instead.

Just because the iPad Pro didn't work out for you doesn't, necessarily, mean it won't work for others!

Your whining, griping and complaining is not an unbiased opinion about the capabilities of the iPad Pro, sir.

Your comments are , also, against the terms of use of this website for which you agreed to when you signed up to be able to participate in these Apple technical community forums!

You do not speak for me or others that are truly enjoying their iPad Pros and for other who may want to purchase and own one in the future.

The iPad Pro was not a good fit for YOU and YOU alone!

I am having the same issue with my 1 week old 9.7 128gb wifi only iPad Pro.  My iPhone 6s plus and my wife's iPad Air are fast but my iPad Pro is slooowwww and most times locks up.  I checked my upload and download speeds through my phone and they are on target with my subscribed speeds.  Not sure if I can keep this iPad if this continues.  I am trying to run a business with it and rely on its capabilities but especially connecting and running the Internet. Thanks.

One thing that needs to be understood, I have multiple apple mobile devices (two iPhone 6s, iPad Air)  and this device, my newest one is exception with a slow internet problem, all the other ones are functioning great.

Have you checked for WiFi interference? Get the AirPort Utility from the app store, enable WiFi scan in settings, open it and perform a scan. Look for any strong signals from other networks on the same channel as yours. Try changing the channel on your router to one that's less used. On 2.4 GHz, channels 1, 6, and 11 are recommended. Any of the 5 GHz channels are suitable. Also, make sure your network uses WPA2-AES (CCMP) encryption. No dual-mode, no TKIP. That might help your connection.

Hi guys!

I'm happy to report that I have solved this problem!

I have noticed the same for the last couple of days that my iPad Pro 12.9" all of a sudden stopped being able to stream almost any video. Tried every trick in the book, reset the iPad, reset router, reset network settings, shout at it, anything but no use. Download speed on my 50Mbps connection tested usually between 1 and 2 Mbps while every other iPhone, ipad, android device is clocking 35 to 50?!

Finally when I was about to smash the bloody thing since the problem is clearly linked to the 12.9" iPad itself a friend who installs these for work told me that he discovered that bluetooth is the cause of slow wifi?! "Just turn it off" he said. And sure enough as soon as I turned off Bluetooth in the settings wifi clocked at 36Mbps!

It turned out that my Apple pencil battery had run out and it lost connection to the iPad. It seems that in these cases the iPad keeps searching for the pencil and monitors the Bluetooth thus interfering with wifi and sabotaging itself!? Then I did more testing and turns out that if pencil is charged and connected wifi speed is just fine. The problem is only if no devices are connected to Bluetooth and it is left active.

Ridiculous, right? But it is what it is and I hope this helps someone else as well.

Thank You, turning off Bluetooth solved my issues !
