How do I edit the order of the mailboxes on the...

I have 31 personal mailboxes on my iMac in which I save/store/archive my emails.  Their order works very well for me.  I used the "move selected messages" icon in Mail's toolbar to take them out of my inbox.  In Yosemite the order of mailboxes either mirrored my own or their was some way I could move them around to do so.  Now in El Capitan the icon's order of mailboxes insists on listing my various accounts' mailboxes first (iCloud, Gmail, & others) before my personal ones, and this means I often need to arrow down to the bottom of the screen and wait for it to scroll to find the right mailbox.

Does anyone know how to edit/arrange the proffered order of mailboxes on the "moved selected messages" icon?

I think I understand your question. Assuming you have multiple accounts, on the Inbox set of mail accounts you can drag one account to where you want it - note, there is no indication that it actually changes - then quit mail and restart it. It should reflect that change and thus affect how you file your messages.  I just tried this a couple of times.

Thank you, but I seem to be unable to do any kind of dragging on the icon's offerings.  I can, of course, arrange the mailboxes on the left-side bar of the view window.  That is where I put the new (to El Capitan) iCloud, Gmail, & two other account mailboxes (all IMAP) that I never use or refer to on the bottom - leaving the standard Inbox,Flagged,Sent, Junk,Trash, & Archive mailboxes on top and then the "On My Mac" 31 mailboxes following before these new interlopers.  But the order that comes on the "move selected messages" icon does not follow that, puts the new/unused mailboxes on top, and then 10 or so of my 'on my mac' mailboxes do not show up unless I start scrolling down its list.

I can, of course, just drag & drop the message into its mailbox for filing, but I was hoping there was a way to regain control of the icon's listing.

For your local mail boxes on your Mac, do you have them showing or hidden on the left hand side of your window? That makes a difference when you choose the Move option.

They are always showing on the left side, Sparkleberry, and they show up on the icon's offerings as well.  It is just that the icon's offerings stacks 13 IMAP mailboxes on top of them in its list while the same 13 are at the bottom of my list on the left hand side.

Thank you that worked for me!  I was also able to highlight those I wished to move and move them bodily.

This still is not working for me. Yes, I have the mailboxes listed in the preferred order in System Preferences > Internet Accounts, and yes, they are listed in the preferred order in Mail in the left sidebar. But no, when I use the "Move Selected Message" button in the Toolbar, it still refuses to show the mailboxes in the preferred order, and there is no option in that button dropdown to reorder them. I'm guessing maybe there's some sort of Terminal command that might fix it, but I don't know what that would be.

Hi Travis, I have this same problem.  Did you ever find a solution?

Hello, were you ever able to solve this problem that pastorron described?  I have the same question/problem.

thanks,

Brad
