Q: Wifi "hardware not installed" and I erased t...

I downloaded sierra a while back, and a month ago my wifi started showing "hardware not installed" and stopped working . I googled ways to fix that, and somehow got to the point of erasing the software from recovery mode. Little did I know that I needed WIFI to redownload it. Now , the only mode I can go into is recovery mode, and each time I turn on the laptop without recovery mode I get a stop sign. I have the sierra software on an external hardisk , but I'm not being able to download it . I don't have backup for my laptop. Is there any way to solve this problem without internet ? Thanks !
