iCloud problem

my friend gave me an iPhone 5s, which he had updated, in which it took him to the setup page where it said iCloud activation lock with some random persons account, even though it was set up in his name. is there anything I can do to remove the problem, as I don't live near an apple store. it is on iOS 10.3.2.
