imac cannot connect to macbook server

Hi,

I have an imac and a macbook pro. I want to connect the imac to the macbook. I've done it before with no problem. Since I updated to Sierra on the MBP I can't do it. It's listed on the imac under "shared" when I click on it, > connect> input the correct name and password> the box shakes as if the password is wrong.  Screen sharing works fine.

The MBP has 'file sharing" checked in system prefs. Allow access for administrators (which I am). The name and password are correct.

All are logged in to icloud on the same apple id

I have another iMac which also can't connect to the MBP , but iMac to iMac is fine.

Any ideas?
