Bluetooth Devices Connection problem

Been using Magic Mouse 2 and wireless keyboard with my Macbook Air (2014) for more than a year. Things were fine until last week when both the mouse and keyboard would be disconnected every 4-5 minutes. I can reconnect by tapping the mouse or a key, but the regularity of this persistent disconnection is frustrating. Does anyone have a similar experience and resolved it? Thanks.

I would try deleting both from Bluetooth System Preference, reset the NVRAM, boot into Safe Mode, then discover and pair both again.
