keychain

Hello all,

I have a MBP 2015 running Sierra 10.12.6

I was curious about keychain. When I looked into my keychain access, there were so many more entries than I had expected to see since I often don't store my passwords in keychain. How do I verify the authenticity of them and should I just erase it all, change my computers password and start over?

Leave it be. You haven't been hacked. Many things on the computer use the keychain, not just you. If you do prefer starting over you can change your password:

For Lion or later

Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password

OS X Mountain Lion- Reset a login password,

OS X Mavericks- Solve password problems,

OS X Yosemite- Reset a login password.

       El Capitan Password Reset.

       macOS Sierra-Reset a login password.

Change or reset the password of a macOS user account - Apple Support.

You can delete the keychain:

Repair Keychain in El Capitan or Sierra

  1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
  2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
  3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
  4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
  5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
  6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting "New Keychain"
  7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then  going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
