using hard drives with new computer

I have been using two different Toshiba external hard drives with my Macbook 2007. I just bought an all in one desktop with the new fusion drive, 1TB and now BOTH of the hard drives are read only access. I can't write anything to them. I have A LOT of information on the drives and don't really have the capacity to clear things off and re-format. Why did the hard drives work just fine on my MacBook and now they won't work on my desktop??
