Mac Sierra says "installed" but version 10.9.5 ...
I am trying to upgrade MacBook Air (2013). When I go to the App store to download Mac Sierra, the download button is not available, as it reads 'Installed'. However, when I go to 'About This Mac' it shows I am running version 10.9.5. I have restarted my laptop a few times. I am trying to upgrade to run other apps that require a more current version of iOS. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
Guess one is that the installer is downloaded, but Sierra is not installed. Check your Applications Folder for the installer.
Guess two is that you installed it on an external drive to try it out. If that is the case, disconnect the external drive.
Have a nice day.

Something else you can try. With the App Store closed, run this command in the terminal…
sudo softwareupdate --clear-catalog
FWIW, the App Store has been somewhat flaky. I have Sierra installed on a MacBook Air, yet the App Store button says "Download" instead of "Installed". Plus it's not listed under "Purchased".
I found the install app in the app folder as suggested in the first bullet. Now happily 1/2 way through the install process. Thanks
I have a similar problem, but upgrading a MacBook Pro (2013?) from 10.8.5.
I ran the installer, computer restarted, but it restarted only in few seconds and under the old 10.8.5 system: "About this Mac" shows 10.8.5. and no apparent change.
If I turn on the Apple Store > Updates > Sierra, click learn more, the blue or grey bar usually used to start download says "installed".
The 'Install macOS Sierra' installer is still in the apps. Mentioning just in case it is useful.
No external disk is connected.
I repeated the install twice and re-started the computer.
Any recommendation please ?
Thanks !
Just like the OP, you should find the installer in your Applications folder.
Thanks. As I wrote above, I ran the installer already.
Hi, I'm having the same issues. Did you figure it out?

How is it listed in the application folder & if it isn't there what do i do?
Install mac OS Sierra. If it isn't there, download it again.
