Apple Service

Hi,

 

I'm Jay, from India. I'd recently purchased the new 15" MacBook Pro (2017) 3.1GHz - 1 TB SSD from the US.

In just a month and a half, the "B" key has become close to unresponsive. Just when I was getting used to the light touch of the butterfly keyboard, this key started failing. I'm having to press it (literally) more than once ( sometimes even 3-4 times) to get a letter input, and I'm having it hit it quite hard.

Sometimes though, the key is responsive without excess pressure. But when this happens, I get a "bb" in one click of the B key. This too has happened very often and it is getting extremely frustrating while typing. I've scoured the internet for DIY fixes, but all I get "massage the keys gently" or "give light knocks below the key, at the back of the laptop". I tried that too, very carefully, but it didn't solve anything.

 

Anyway, I plan to take it to an Apple Store in Boston to see what can be done. I'd like to know wether this particular problem can be fixed, or would they replace it with a new laptop altogether? (In which case I need to make my backups before taking it to the store?)

More importantly, I was wondering if I do give it for servicing, how long will it be away from me? Even a day without my laptop would be extremely problematic. Is there some kind of high priority service that can be done, where I can get back my laptop within a day or two? What would be the best solution?

I cannot answer for the Boston Store but your post does give an opportunity to mention Warranties and India.

 

You are fortunate to be able to take it back to the USA.   In India, as a rule, it is often difficult to get warranty service if you did not originally buy the product from the store you go to.

 

It is unlikely Apple will replace your Macbook if it is more than 14 days old or the problem has been subject of an official recall.   Providing the problem was not the result of a liquid spillage at some time, it would probably be subject of a replacement keyboard.   Phone Boston and ask how long that would take.
