How to import email backup file *.ost into Appl...

Hi,

I've seen similar inquires before and the reason I'm asking again is because I'm looking for solution to a specific scenario.

I've left the company and no long had access to the exchange server via original account which has been removed. Before I left the company I had backed up the email file which, however ended up to be ost format by default instead of pst, and the most unfortunate thing is I didn't notice when I still had a chance to correct it. The Windows Outlook is version 2013 btw.

I've read in discussion threads that using 3rd party app it's possible to convert ost into pst in Windows then import into Mac, but there seems to have quite a bit downside to that option. I'm wondering if any guru here could throw me a light or provide any advice to solve it without 3rd party app, I'm very much appreciative.

The email file has contained very important information(my personal contacts due to a setup issue on Iphone I've lost them all when the email was removed) so I have to get it back, I've contacted previous employer because it's regarded as a legal issue so it's impossible to get a backup from them.

The Mac App Store has one (OST to OLM - Converter form Microsoft Outlook).ost coverter but it is $40.  Google shows there are a good number of free converters but they run on Windows only.

OST to OLM conversion is very common among Mac users. In order to access the data created on a Mac through a Windows PC, we need to convert the OLM file into a PST file.

Alternatively you may use the manual way that includes creating a new IMAP email account and transferring all the required data into that account from MS Outlook on your Windows PC. Then synchronizing that IMAP account with Outlook for Mac. But this procedure is a bit complicated and practically speaking, becomes very tedious if large amount of data is to be transferred.

You can use the manual method if you need to access only some emails on the PC. But if you need the entire OLM file database, i would recommend using a third party tool for such purpose. These tools are specifically designed for these needs and there are variety of options available in the market, You can look into that.

Apple mail supports MBOX file and hence you can easily import your OST file by converting that file to MBOX file format. This OST to MBOX Conversion operation requires the support of some capable application and one such application is GainTools OST to MBOX Converter.
