Problems connecting to WiFi after 10.12.16 update

Just update my daughter's MacBook (Mid 2010; 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2Gb RAM) to Sierra 10.12.6. The update was fine, but it keeps trying to use an already taken  IP address. I've restarted it a couple of times to no avail. I'm not sure what to try next.
