Would I see a difference by upgrading from seri...

I have an Apple Watch series 0 (bought in the spring of 2015 when the watches first came out), running watchOS 3.2.3. Apart from timekeeping, alarms and timers, the main thing I use it for is fitness/workout stats (heart rate, total steps per day, estimated calorie expenditure, etc). I also plan to track sleep stats with a third-party app (though this will require working out other times of the day to charge the watch).

Is it likely I'd see a practical different if I upgraded the watch -- say, to a series 2? I gather that the latter has a faster processor and GPS, and is water-resistant to 50 meters. I don't think GPS is an issue for me, as I always have my iPhone with me. Though I'm a scuba diver, on general principle I don't see myself wearing the watch in the water. So would anything else change if I upgraded?

Is it like

Hi

You may notice faster responsiveness and performance when using apps.

Some key differences that you may find it helpful to note include:

  • Apple Watch 1st generation models (which you described as "Series 0") have a single core processor.
  • Newer models - in the Series 1 and Series 2 ranges, released in September 2016 - have a faster, dual-core processor.
  • Series 2 models also have:
    • A higher level of water resistance.
      • The watch's water resistance rating means that it can be worn, for example, when shallow water swimming and that it is also more resistant to water than other models during general daily use.
      • Note that Series 2 models should not be worn when scuba diving.
      • About Apple Watch water resistance - Apple Support
    • A brighter display (twice as bright as 1st generation and Series 1 models).
    • Built-in GPS.
      • This can be used to track workout route maps for certain outdoor workouts when the paired iPhone is not also taken along and can also be used to help locate a lost watch (subject to it being connected to a trusted Wi-Fi network).
  • Aluminium models have Ion-X glass (these watches are lighter in weight than stainless steel models of the same case size).
  • Stainless steel watches have a sapphire crystal, which is more scratch resistant than Ion-X glass.

All Apple Watch models are able to run the latest software (watchOS) version.

Thanks -- that pretty much confirmed my prior understanding.

You're welcome!
