iwatch series 3 with cellular

Hi, I'm considering purchasing a series 3 iwatch. In Ireland the series 3 with cellular is not available, they only sell the with series 3 with GPS, while the Irish mobile operators decide if its something they will support.

If I purchased the series 3 with Cellular from the UK, not only do I get 16gb of storage, the watch will be cellular ready if an Irish operator supports this in the future. This seems like the right decision for me.

My question is; are the watches with the built in SIM cards generic or will a specific model be released which will work in the Irish cellular market? i.e in the USA, if another cellular operator decided to support the iwatch is it the cellular operator who meets the apple iwatch standard to support it on their network?
