TextEdit change/adjust size/default zoom

Hello,

does anybody know how I can change the default zoom of the TextEdit? When I start the app it is always way to small - so I have to zoom in manually. When I do that I have to resize the window afterwards because the text does not fit the window of the app anymore.

Changing the default font size is not an option since I often use the TextEdit as a note pad and later copy and paste paragraphs to other applications. With a larger font size I would than have to change the fontsize afterwards in each of the apps I copy text to.

Hope that makes sense. So far I have not found a solution.

It used to be that what I saw on the computer screen in TextEdit was what was printed. Now what I see is type that is too small to read yet prints too large. What have you done and why?
