Mac asks for icloud password on startup?

Hi guys, got an annoying issue I can't seem to resolve.

Every time I boot my iMac it asks me to enter my iCloud password. Regardless of whether I enter my password or dismiss the popup, it immediately pops up a second time and asks me for the same thing. If I dismiss it again, it will go away.

So if I type in my password, my iPhone will ping me and give me the 6 digit code to put into my iMac to authorise it, but the iMac meanwhile will have popped up with another message asking me for the password that I had just typed in.

If I go onto System Preferences and the iCloud, I find that I am already signed in, so I have no idea why it is asking me to sign in every time I boot. I read that to fix this I need to sign out of iCloud and then sign back in. That didn't work. No idea what else to try but I have been putting up with this for months.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Move the following to the Trash and restart.

Close all running apps. Put the following items in the trash:

1) In the ~/Library/ folder, put the Caches folder in the trash.

2) In the ~/Library/Application Support/ folder, put the folder iCloud in the trash.

3) In the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder, put the file MobileMeAccounts.plist in the trash.

Learned from Kurt Lang

Did you turn on FileVault (disk encryption) in the Security & Privacy System Preferences? If you did there will be a prompt for the encryption password every time you boot your system.

If not then not sure what the problem might be.

Good luck...

Thanks!  I followed all these steps to a "t" and it worked!  No more asking for icloud password on startup.
