My camera stopped working on my MacBook Pro aft...

My camera stopped working on my MacBook Pro after the iOS 11 update. This has happened 3 other times with previous updates which eventually gets resolved with subsequent fixes from apple. Unfortunately when I contact Apple they tell me it is a hardware problem and I need to pay to have it fixed. Except the hardware magically starts working again when they update and fix their software. Anyone else have this issue and have advice on how to fix it? I have meetings and appointments that require Skype, in the past it has taken several months for apple to resolve the problem.
