Which MacBook Pro should I buy?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get a new 2017 MacBook Pro, but I need some help narrowing down which one to buy.

I'm currently a college student and I already own a 13-inch mid-2012 MacBook Pro that has a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 500GB storage capacity (of which I have 436GB available). I use this as my daily driver to write school assignments, do online homework, watch YouTube videos, and just browse around. I don't really do much video/photo editing, nor do I run any 'heavy' apps like games or softwares. I only really store Word documents on the SSD, as well as a few PPT presentations, Excel sheets, photos, etc. This is pretty much just a normal everyday computer for me.

I think that with this computer being about 5-6 years old, it's time for me to upgrade. I'm looking at buying one of the 2017 MacBook Pros, but there are so many options that I'm not sure which one I exactly want. I want something that is powerful but I do not want to have to spend a ton of money on upgrading the processor.

I was looking at getting the MBP w/o TouchBar (2.3GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD) or possibly customizing that to have a 512GB SSD. I'm also looking at the MBP w/ Touch Bar (256GB, 3.1 GHz processor, 8GB of RAM) or customizing that to have 512GB SSD as well. So I'm pretty much stuck in between the four configurations.

I've done a lot of of research about the pros and cons of the Touch Bar, and while it's super cool, I wouldn't mind not having it. I've been more wondering about the processor speed. I understand the Touch Bar model has a higher 3.1GHz processor than the regular 2.3GHz non-Touch Bar (probably because it has to power the bar also), but coming from a 2.5GHz processor, is a 2.3GHz processor a downgrade? I don't really care about upgrading RAM speed as I don't foresee using those super complicated apps or anything, and I might just spring for the 512GB upgrade to have extra space just in case.

I would really appreciate some advice on this. I'm really more concerned about the two processor speeds between the two models. I know since I'm doing super basic use I'm not going to need a super fancy processor, but I do not want to be watching videos or using the occasional app/software and have the computer go super slow (which is why I'm leaning towards the Touch Bar model with the higher processor speed).

Any advice is appreciated!
