steps to produce issue

Mac OS Sierrra 10.12.6

Create a Group in the contacts.app

export the group as "group.vcf" (in effect archiving the data)

reimport "group.vcf"

expected behavior - its individual contacts reimport AND the Group name itself reappears under Groups

actual behavior - individual contacts reimport but the Group name does NOT reappear under Groups

Does anybody know a solution or workaround to this seemingly obvious overlook on Apple's part?
