Two duplicate iCloud groups in Contacts

I've got two identical iCloud contacts groups in Contacts.  If I delete one, its deletes the other which is not want I want.

How can I delete one of the iCloud groups?

If you go to iCloud.com, are duplicate contacts there?

No.

System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing. Allow the contacts to be deleted from the computer. They will still be on the server.

Same issue here under El Capitan; solution proposed doesn't work; in Contacts prefs under default act iCloud appears twice although only one act. linked to Mac.

anyone any suggestion?

Then delete the acc that is not connected to the Mac.

Actually only one account exists, it just shows up twice in the default acct dropdown of the prefs pane of contacts

That is not what you said.

Start your own thread and provide some (accurate) detail.

Let me try, since I (think) I'm having the same issue:

I have one iCloud account. I am only logged into that account. When I check my Internet Accounts, iCloud only appears once; when I check the Accounts tab under Preferences in Contacts, iCloud again only appears once. But I have two identical sets of iCloud groups in the Groups pane for Contacts (see below). None of my contacts are duplicated and changes made in one account propagate to the other account. This duplication issue exists for both my macs, but not for my iPhone and not on iCloud.com. I have tried all the basic fixes (bouncing Contacts in iCloud, bouncing all of iCloud, cleaning out the AddressBook data in Application Support). I think it's something in my address book configuration that I haven't cleaned up yet but I don't know what to try next.

For reference, I'm running the latest El Cap release, installed as an upgrade over Yosemite. I've been alternating upgrades and clean installs for several years now, using Migration from Time Machine backups to restore user accounts after clean builds. I think the Migration process is partly to blame here, because I've found files dating back to c. 2005 (my first PowerBook). Thoughts?

Update: I misspoke regarding my Macs -- my iMac has this issue but my MBP does not. I still think this is an application configuration issue but it's also clear that it's not pervasive across my non-iOS machines.

I have exactly the same issue! Any solution?

You might want to start your own post since this one is from last year. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

This duplicate iCloud list in Contacts has plagued me for many years.

Like you, it only happens on one machine, and not in iOS.

I have scoured the Internet and tried EVERYTHING.

Did you ever get it figured it out?

Could you possibly email me if you have a solution? charlesblackwell@mac.com - I don't typically frequent these discussions.
