iTunes 12.7 moved ~2,800 podcasts to the trash

I'm running iOS 10.3.3 on my iPhone 6, and Sierra 10.12.6 on my Mac mini.

I upgraded to iTunes 12.7 a few days ago.  Before my first sync, I manually checked the settings on all my podcasts, mainly to ensure that auto-delete was disabled and allowing old podcasts was enabled.  After the first sync of my iPhone a bunch of podcasts I used to subscribe to, but had since deleted, were visible again.  I re-deleted some of them, but at least once iTunes hung for hours and needed a Force Quit.

The second time I synced my iPhone, I got an error messages that 32 tracks "could not be found" in order to be synced.  Later, I looked in my Trash to see what was there before emptying the trash, and there were about 2,800 MP3 files in there.  Most were podcasts, though some were music.  Without spending much time, I found a few of the 32 tracks that "could not be found."

I saved the 2,800 files in a folder on the Desktop.  Maybe I can re-add the music files, but getting my podcasts back into the iTunes library is a problem, since they must be downloaded to be recognized and organized as podcasts.  I had years of NPR's Car Talk podcast, and I had listened to most, and now they're all marked as New.

In general, this has been a bad upgrade for me.
