Connecting an iPad to physical ethernet

In the past, just last year, it’s been possible to connect a locked iPad, that cannot access a wireless network, to a physical ethernet network using a USB to ethernet adapter with the Apple MK0W2AM/A Lightning To USB Camera Adapter. That setup is no longer working so we cannot clear the unlock code with our management software to repurpose the iPad in our school environment. Is this a known change? Is there a work around and/or another path?
