Why does Mail app always open at the same email...

Specs:

- iPad 2

- iOS 8.2

Each time I open my Mail app on my iPad it shows me an email message from a year ago. This makes me scroll for minutes before I can see the latest message. Why is it always stuck at this email message?

One way I can avoid the problem (but not get rid of it) is to flag a recent message in my Mail on my Macbook Pro and when it syncs (IMAP) the flag is synced as well. So then I can tap on that last flagged message and there I go, I'm closer at the top of my list.

Is anyone experiencing this as well?

And does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

P P S:, I guess I found an easy solution; I simply delete the email it was always opening and now it seem to be that the iPad Mail app is working fine, displaying the latest email.

It sou nds like your Mail app keeps opening the to the same email. I would start by quitting the Mail app:

iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works. 

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

Dear all,

me and one friend of mine have the same issue; both of us have iPad Air 2 64Gb with iOS 9.1 (but this is appending since iOS 7).

on iPhone (5s 16 Gb , iOS 9.1) no problems .

I've already tried to make a full reset of the iPad; it worked, but after a one week, it happened again with a different mail,

Does somebody has some better hints

try flagging your latest message in Mail on your Mac. Then when you sync, you can easily get to the top message and start from there. Does that sound like a temp solution?

unfortunately it's not working; I'm used to flag some important email (using mac, iPad and iPhone) but every time I'm opening the mail app on iPad it appears always the same old mail ...

haha! Great solution! Maybe you can retrieve it from the trash can later on.

Yes, sure, if you recover the mail from the trash, you'll have the mail again;

opening the Mail app it will display correctly the latest email.

IF you slide the email to the left a little you can click notify me.    This will at least move the position of were the email opens.         I usually try to mark the last email of the nigh notify me so in the morning I don't have to scroll up from weeks ago

I Don't think sits, just the three or four users on here that have that issue, yet apple support never gave cause or root of issue. Just gave a "canned or scripted" copy and paste approach to solving issue: restore device, that takes hours and inevitably you lose soemthing every time. That's a great workaround, but it will happen again with another message, it's obviously a bug because it doesn't happen on iphone.  is Apple doing something to resolve this issue? It's been months with this and it's frustrating.

Need a button : NOT HELPFUL (next apple support solution: "buy new device").

I have had this problem as well for a long time. The answers here work but are temporary solutions. The problem always reappears after awhile. Frustrating!

It worked find for me! I have simply deleted the email that was always opening. Tks.

II hate this too!  No good answers.  Tapping above 'INBOX' on the top of your left side auto scrolls to the top of the messages at least. Gah!  Hate this.
