iTunes 12.7 launched without warning about changes

I am very annoyed!  This morning I launched iTunes on my Windows 10 platform, and saw the 'update available' notice. So, not suspecting I was leading myself down a black hole, I said 'yeah, go ahead'.

It was only when iTunes 12.7 finished installing and started, that I discovered that app support had been chopped out!

This is such an insult to loyal Apple iPhone and iPad users, who deploy iTunes to manage and maintain their apps. Saying that apps must now be updated by using the App Store app is a very weak argument - how am I to know when updated apps have been released?  Do I have to check each and every app on the Store regularly, just to find out if a new release is available? How can that be an improvement in service?

Getting ever more annoyed with this unexpected and forced change of ways of doing something that has worked well for months, I decided to replace the new iTunes 12.7 with the previous version I had been using, iTunes 12.6, I downloaded 12.6.2 from the download page (interestingly, 12.7 isn't being released from there, yet), and ran it. Of course, it detected a higher version installed, and refused to run. So, I had to uninstall 12.7, then install 12.6 - right thing to do? You'd think so, but no, it isn't, because then 12.6 cannot open the music library, as it was created by a higher version!

I'm screwed! Thank you, Apple - nice work! iTunes 12.6 was working perfectly when I started my PC this morning, and now it isn't working at all, and I cannot yet see how to rectify it.

Please can anyone tell me how I can get iTunes 12.6.2.20 to open a library updated by 12.7?  That's what I'd really like to know right now.

Please, pretty please, will someone help me?

Having blown away iTunes 12.7 I no longer have an install kit for it, as it was installed automatically, and I cannot (yet) find a 12.7 install image anywhere on the web. Thus, I now have a totally non-working iTunes music and app library on my PC. As I said at the start, I am very annoyed.
