Apple Watch 3 tracking

I am considering updating my wife's watch to the Apple Watch 3.  We like the fact that I can watch her run route from home for safety reasons.  She currently uses Road ID (ecrumb).  I can see her route and it is updated every minute.  Is there a way to track her if she only has the Apple Watch 3 with her, so she does not have to carry her iPhone with her?  Either with ecrumb, or some other app, or something built into the Apple Watch 3?

Subject to the Apple Watch being activated on a support cellular plan, Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) can be located used on a standalone basis using Find Friends and/or Find My iPhone when the paired iPhone is not also taken along.
